Our earthly lives unfold through a physical body in a world of matter as shown through the Bhavas. The Sanskrit term for Bhava literally means, “Coming into existence, Birth” – It also means “The Experience – Experiencing.”
Learning Astrology – Astrology Houses
It is through what is shown through the houses that our karma is born materially. It is here that Purusha is expressed as Prakriti in a world of consequence.
Each house has many attributes, yet underneath there is a deeper “seed concept” that is key to that house. By connecting spirit to form, the houses also reveal the deeper evolutionary process and potential behind all of our actions. Vedic astrology has very specific house classifications based on the four stations of life.
Those four stations of life are:
Dharma – Right understanding expressed through our actions.
Artha – Sustenance and Material comfort.
Kama – Enjoyment and Pleasure
Moksha – Liberation from the World
These four lessons are repeated three times in an astrology chart through the realms of the Individual Self – Other People – and in a Universalized sense.
Learning Astrology – Vedic Astrology and the Gunas
The three Gunas are deep principles of life. Understanding them, and specifically how the planets rule the Gunas are key to understanding astrology, and Life.
We can understand the deepest problems and mistakes in life by understanding the appropriate expression of each Guna – and the planets that rule them.
The correct application of the Gunas leads us to a correct understanding of astrology as well. In particular, it allows us to overcome the misconceptions around gentle and cruel planets, benefics and malefics, etc.
I think the simplistic application of “good and bad” planets and paradigms in astrology (and life) is very destructive.
Learning Astrology – 4 Main Indicators
In any astrological situation there are 4 main factors that you need to assess. Each one is related to a different part of the issue.
1. Planetary Karaka: The Capacity – the principle itself
2. House Lord: The specific things
3. House Itself: The field, the experience happening
4. Harmonic Chart: The overall quality and the specific timing
You can apply this framework to any astrological issue, such as relationships, career.
Learning Astrology – Principles, Techniques and Outcomes
In this video I describe the three levels of manifestation. Principles, techniques and outcomes.
Many astrology students place importance on the wrong things at the wrong time.
Instead of focusing on Principles, which give the highest leverage in learning, they focus on techniques, in order to reach their outcomes.
When we understand the correct sequence of principles, techniques and outcomes we can do most anything, like landing a man on the Moon.True knowledge of Astrology can be compared to having the technology to get to the moon, like riding on a rocket ship.
Yet most students, because they do not understand the principles, techniques and outcomes, they are like riding on a horse, not a rocket. It is as if they are still trying to reach the moon from the back of a horse.
